Valentine's Day

I realize this is a rather delayed post... Valentine's Day was several weeks ago... but better late than never, right?

Jacob surprised me with a trip to Topeka to the Home and Garden Show.  It was really neat and we got tons of ideas for landscaping projects for the future!

 

We ate at Red Robin for supper.  They have the absolute best burgers ever.  I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't been to one before!

 



While we were in Topeka, he had coerced with Liz and Haley to bring over flowers and leave a few notes and cards on the table.

 



 Haley made these cute signs!  She had put them around the house and I kept finding them!  Thanks Haley!  You did awesome!

 

 

Surpise #2...  On Sunday he took me to pick out a puppy.  He had been wanting a puppy for awhile and I told him 2 dogs were enough... but I guess if he gives me one for Valentine's Day, how can I refuse?  However... then he decided he wanted one too.  So we came home with 2 puppies.

We have a little picture frame that we I had been leaving him notes on.  He must have gotten the hint a few times when I said it would sure be nice if I wasn't the only one changing the message.

"You insist that I do crazy things like write on this thing...and foot rubs.  I love you b/c of foot rubs"

 

I am so thankful for the man God chose for me.  We are so blessed!  Don't get caught up in what's going on around you and forget about the special people in your life!

As promised...

...a long, long, time ago.  Here is the pictures of the couple remodel projects we worked on this past fall.   I LOVE how they turned out!

 

 We opened up this wall between the kitchen and family room.  It makes our broken up farm house so much more open!  This picture is looking from the kitchen into the family room, straight back to our bedroom.

 This picture is standing in the family room and looking into the kitchen.  Behind the kitchen is a bathroom and then the door goes out to the garage.  On the left of this picture is the dining room with the kitchen table.

 And here is our coffee station.  You may say we have a slight coffee addiction.  Thanks to my first job at Olde World in Mediapolis, I enjoy some fancy coffee.

 

My second project on the house.  I just did some major painting on this bedroom upstairs.  If you recall, it was all red.  Every wall in this room was red.  With red drippings all over the baseboards and floor.  See this post.

 

 This is the view you get when you walk in the door.  Behind the desk is a closet which sits in the middle of the room.  On either side of it is built in drawers and mirrors.  I designed this room to be a playroom and room for the kids to stay when they visit.  I painted the walls gray and all the trim white and used a coral color as an accent.

 This barn comes from Jacob's childhood.

 The curtain rods have little owls on the ends, but you can't really tell in this picture.  The curatins are from Kohl's.

 In this picture the door is on the far right.  I made the decorative balls above the bed from a Styrofoam ball, hot glue, and felt.  I still plan on hanging several more.  I kept thinking I was going to get to it, and that is one reason I hadn't posted these pictures yet.  I also still need to hang the shelf that is sitting on the floor in the bottom left of this picture.  I painted the shelf white and took the matching felt from the balls and glued it in the back of the cubbies.

 I have a couple special art displays that I hang the kid's art work on.  I LOVE getting pictures from our nieces and nephews in the mail!

 I had acquired this large bird cage from an aunt and it makes a great cage for all the stuffed animals.

 And last, but certainly not least, nor the easiest is the area rug I painted on the floor.  It was most definitely a learning experience, but I'm so glad I stuck with it.  I LOVE how it turned out. 

 

 P.S.  If I recall correctly... the first night I started on this, my husband got a text that went something like this "I quit!  This is so stupid!  Why did I ever think I could tackle this? (insert sobbing emoji here)"

 

Thanks for not giving up on this post!  I know it is long overdue, but to be fair... when I had the time to take pictures and post it, my house was never blog-worthy clean.

 

We had beautiful weather last week.  I believe we broke a record with a high of 78 in January!  We are paying for it now.  Yesterday was a mere 7.  But tomorrow is supposed to hit 55.  I guess that's what they say about Kansas.  Don't like the weather?  Stick around a few days... it will change.

Everyday Randomness

This is just a random post.  About random things.  With random pictures.

Kansas has the most beautiful sunrises!  There is no editing or filter on this picture and it amazes me every time.  God paints the sky so well!

Jake has been doing quite a bit of hunting lately.  Mostly ducks and geese.

So when those early hunting mornings happen... this is what happens for breakfast.  I promise I don't let him eat these any other time!  Poptarts and coffee.  Breakfast of champions...or...early morning risers that have a sleepy wife.

We did have a snow/ice storm pass through that resulted in no church one Wednesday evening.  I got all cozy on the couch.

I've done a few things in my studio.  This is a decal logo for some office doors.  I've also done some heat transfer vinyl designs for some shirts.

So, this is what happens when you think you are just going to Grandpa's so you just slip on the most comfortable shoes you have... then you end up in the Emergency Room because he falls.  Yep.  It's a good thing it wasn't a very busy night in the ER!

Jake likes to entice me to do things with him by calling it a date...for some reason it works everytime.  We have been doing a lot of "chopping firewood dates".

Another Christmas

We were glad Grandpa was able to join us for our family Christmas.  I never tire of his stories and words of wisdom.

He got lotion as part of his gift... he kept saying he didn't want anything, so we gave him $5.00 gift cards to a bunch of random places and some Bath & Body Works lotion.  Maybe he will come up with something next year...

Our gag gifts are my favorite!  We each get  $5.00 gag gift and all end up rolling with laughter as each one gets opened.  He got a "Lovebirds" cutting board.

One of the boys got this gem of a magnet.

And Dad... well... he got Fanny Floss, bathroom air freshener, and an adorable red purse that has been making its rounds for several years.

     

    

We sat around the table and ate and laughed and laughed some more.

Christmas Eve the cousins and a couple aunts got together for game night at our house.  I'm sure Julie is wondering what she is getting into by marrying into the family.

I'm so glad God blessed me with being a part of this incredible family!

Knapp Christmas

We were all able to be at Dad & Mom's on the Friday after Christmas.  Uncle Darrin started things off with the quarter machine in the background.  A grocery store went out of business and he somehow acquired it.  Needless to say, we were all raided for quarters.  Everyone's pockets, purses, and vehicles were quarterless by the end of the night.

On Saturday we enjoyed a big noon meal.  The rule was that we would open gifts after lunch was all cleaned up and the dishes were done.  The kids were MORE than willing to help out!

 The Knapp tradition is for Dad to read the Christmas story before opening presents and then one of the littles gets to put baby Jesus in the manger in the Nativity set.

This crazy hat wore out its welcome quickly.  You press a button on the front and it played a jingle and the tip of the hat danced.  Even the adults enjoyed it...briefly.

 Someone is all worn out! (or trying to ruin Uncle Trevor's selfie... I'm not sure which.)

 The kids made moon dough.  It's a combination of shaving cream and cornstarch.  It was really cool once you got all the cornstarch mixed in.  The texture was so smooth and it smelled good!

I wish I had more pictures I could show you, but somehow, someway, somebody was smarter than me and changed my passcode on my phone... so I had to reset my phone and lost all those pictures.  Good thing memories can't be lost!

A couple weeks before our immediate family Christmas, we were able to go to Dad's family Christmas, which included Grandpa & Grandma Knapp's anniversary celebration.

 There were some that were unable to make it due to sickness, but we still had a good turnout!  Love these kids!

 No matter how hard you try, this is the best smile you're going to get out of Grandpa.

Me and my Dad.  He amazes me in the progress I see when I come back!  I know he feels like he's not getting anywhere when it is such a slow progress, but I am encouraged whenever I see him.  Thanks for all the prayers on his behalf!
